The Power of Mini Workouts During the Holidays

by | Dec 5, 2025 | Training

Why “some is better than none” is your secret weapon for staying fit this season.

The holidays are here – which means schedules get messy, routines get disrupted, and workouts can easily slip into the “I’ll start again in January” category.

But here’s the truth most people forget:

Your fitness doesn’t fall apart because you missed a 60-minute workout.
It falls apart when you stop looking for opportunities to move.

And that’s exactly why mini workouts are a game-changer this time of year.

Mini Workouts = Maximum Payoff

A “mini workout” is any burst of intentional movement you work into your day.
Think 5–15 minutes of strength, mobility, cardio, or even a quick Tabata.

They may feel small, but the payoff is huge:

  • They keep your metabolism humming
  • They help you maintain muscle (which reduces fat gain!)
  • They improve your mood and energy
  • They keep you mentally in the game even when your schedule isn’t

When consistency is hard, frequency matters more than duration.

Why “Some is Better Than None” Isn’t Just a Cute Phrase

It’s physiology.

Movement – any movement – creates:

  • better blood sugar control
  • improved calorie burn
  • reduced stress hormones
  • increased daily energy expenditure

You don’t need perfection.
You need touch points – little reminders to your body that you’re still prioritizing your health.

Five minutes of squats, lunges, core work, or mobility may not feel like much.
But stack four or five of those throughout the day, and suddenly you’ve done more than someone who’s “waiting” for the perfect hour-long workout they’ll never actually get to.

Mindset: If You Want to Avoid Weight Gain… You Have to Look for Movement

Let’s be honest…

Between parties, travel, kids home from school, and holiday chaos, your routine is not going to look normal.

So don’t fight it – adjust for it.

If your goal is to:

  • maintain your body composition
  • avoid the 5 – 8 lbs most adults gain between Thanksgiving and New Year’s
  • feel strong heading into January

then you MUST adopt one mindset:

👉 Movement is everywhere – I just have to take advantage of it.

This means:

  • Doing 10 squats before you jump in the shower
  • Knocking out a plank or glute bridge while the oven preheats
  • Taking a 5-minute walk after a meal
  • Hitting a quick dumbbell or band circuit during a commercial break
  • Pairing a stretch session with your morning coffee

You’re not chasing perfection.
You’re chasing opportunities.

That’s how you win the holiday season.

You Don’t Need More Time. You Need More Moments.

The holidays often feel like one long stretch of “I’ll get back to it later.”

But mini workouts flip that script and put YOU back in control.

You’ll feel better.
You’ll stay stronger.
You’ll keep weight gain at bay.
And you’ll roll into January feeling proud – not panicked.
