Every June, something predictable happens.
Schedules loosen. Routines slip. The gym gets quieter. And somewhere between the cookout on Saturday and the lake house weekend and the “I’ll get back on track in September,” summer becomes the season where intentions go to die.
We get it. Summer is supposed to be fun. And it is.
But here’s what we’ve learned after years of coaching athletes, adults, and everyone in between: the people who stay consistent in July and August don’t just maintain – they pull ahead. By the time September rolls around and everyone else is restarting, our people are building momentum.
That’s the Complete Performance way. Summer doesn’t stop us. It fuels us.
THE MYTH OF THE SUMMER BREAK
There’s a story a lot of people tell themselves: “Summer is too busy to train consistently, so I’ll take it easy and pick back up in the fall.”
It sounds reasonable. It isn’t.
Here’s what actually happens during that break:
The strength you built in spring begins to fade within two to three weeks of reduced training. The habits you spent months forming start to unravel. The confidence that comes from showing up regularly quietly disappears.
And then September arrives, and you’re not starting fresh – you’re starting over.
We’ve seen this cycle repeat itself year after year. And the people who break out of it share one thing in common: they stopped treating summer like a pause button.
WHY SUMMER ACTUALLY WORKS IN YOUR FAVOR
Here’s the thing about summer that most people miss – it’s actually one of the best training seasons of the year. Here’s why.
FEWER EXTERNAL PRESSURES
The back-to-school crunch, the Q4 work push, the holiday schedule chaos – none of that exists right now. July is, comparatively, simple. You have more control over your time and your days than you think. Most people just don’t use it.
THE COMPETITION IS SITTING OUT
Every athlete we work with hears this from Brian: your competition is practicing, but only the smart ones are getting stronger. The same principle applies to your health. While the people around you are taking a break, you can be building something.
THE TIMELINE MATH WORKS
Start in July. Train consistently for 12 weeks. That lands you at the end of September – feeling better, moving better, and arriving at Q4 with momentum instead of starting from scratch on November 1st.
Twelve weeks is enough time to make a real, lasting change. The window is open right now.
WHAT “SUMMER CONSISTENCY” ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE
We’re not asking for perfection. We never are.
Consistency in summer doesn’t mean you skip the cookout or turn down the lake house weekend. It means you build a structure that bends without breaking.
For our Strength Class members, that might mean showing up Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday even when Tuesday through Friday are full. For our remote coaching clients, it means the program adapts to travel weeks and irregular schedules – because a plan that only works when life is perfect isn’t a plan.
For our fall athletes, summer consistency is a competitive edge disguised as a training block.
Whatever your version of “summer consistent” looks like, we can help you build it.
THE COMPLETE PERFORMANCE SUMMER LINEUP
If you’re ready to use July well, here’s what’s available at CP right now:
STRENGTH CLASS
Our flagship group training program, running all summer. Structured, coached, progressive – and built around a community that actually shows up. Whether you’re new or returning, the summer block is a great place to start (or restart).
STRESS FREE FAT LOSS – REMOTE COACHING WITH JORDAN
If you’ve been thinking about remote coaching, summer is honestly an ideal time to begin. The schedule flexibility that summer gives you is exactly what makes the first few weeks of a coaching program easier to absorb. Jordan is opening spots for the July cohort this week. More on that below.
SPORTS TEAM TRAINING WITH BRIAN
For fall athletes – volleyball, cross country, football, soccer, tennis, swimming and diving – July is the most important training month of the year. Brian’s Sports Team Training program runs through summer and into the season. If your athlete doesn’t have a summer program yet, this is the conversation to have today.
ANDY’S SEMI-PRIVATE STRENGTH
For the men who’ve been meaning to get back into consistent training: semi-private is the in-between that actually works. Not a class, not solo. Coached, accountable, and flexible enough to fit around a real schedule.
THE BOTTOM LINE
The people who feel good in October made decisions in July.
Not dramatic decisions. Not perfect ones. Just consistent, intentional choices to show up when the easy thing was to wait.
That’s what Complete Performance is built for. Not the highlight reel version of health and fitness – the real version, the one that holds up through BBQs and travel weeks and busy kids and all of it.
Summer doesn’t stop us. Come see why.
